I mention this not for the purpose of belittling any current or former mentoring student, but to emphasize my own lack of perfection as well as the fact that I am always learning and attempting to improve. The Synergism of Patterns and Breakouts
Andrew Black, one of my mentoring students in New Zealand, is one of those rare individuals who demonstrated the ability to take my price pattern discoveries and expand them into a trading system that surpasses my original patterns (there have been and will be others). In this case he took my day of week concept and combined it with breakout patterns he discovered. To this synergistic combination he added a profit management system to create C.A.T.S., an active short term trading system that runs under the Genesis Navigator™ Platinum or Gold trading software. In his own words Andrew describes the C.A.T.S. concept as follows:
The C.A.T.S. system takes advantage of the tendency of markets to breakout in a particular direction following certain price movements. When this movement occurs on certain days of the week, there is a high-probability for those markets to consolidate the initial breakout to a profitable daily opening position within several days of the entry signal. Profits are taken when a market advances a certain number of ticks beyond its first profitable daily opening. Average trade length is 2 to 10 days.
When Andrew approached me with this combo, I put him through the paces. I asked him to show me track records, out of sample records and post out of sample records. I was hugely impressed – so much so that I entered into an agreement with Andrew to make C.A.T.S. available to a LIMITED number of traders.
